Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory – It all started with a wonderful man, Griffith J. Griffith.

An excellent building that attracts the beauties of the stars to Earth, sits on Hollywood Hill and is fully owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles. The unique appearance of the Griffith Observatory has made it a popular attraction and one of Los Angeles' top destinations. It is named after Colonel Griffith J. Griffith who very generously donated money to the observatory.

This observatory contains various space exhibits, star exhibitions at the planetarium, and very often hosts several exclusive events. It is located in Griffith Park, and the stunning view of Los Angeles has long been used in many films.

The observatory also features 60 space exhibits designed to dazzle your imagination; the best part is the largest astronomically accurate image ever created called "The Big Picture" that apparently spans one million galaxies.

The Hall of the Eye and Sky of the Sky shows live how human nature views the sky and objects in the sky like planets, moons, comets, suns and more.

The Samuel Oschin Planetarium is the main attraction of the Griffith Observatory. A 20-30 minute experience in a planetarium will give you the feeling of being so close to heaven.

The Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater offers a free show with a 23-minute documentary on the Observatory's history and mission. The depth of space and the edge of space exhibits are where they show us the Milky Way Galaxy, planets, Our Earth and solar system, Pieces of Heaven and more.

A view of the city of Los Angeles from the outdoor patio is the best experience here and you will certainly not want to miss this one.

You can access the observatory through the entrances to Vermont or Fern Dell. Parking at the Observatory is very limited and the busiest time is usually on weekends.

Since 1935, when it first opened, admission has been free, in accordance with Griffith's will.
